Vets4Energy State Liaison Captain James McCormick presented to a crowd of more than 450 attendees on Monday at the Vietnam Veterans Appreciation Day Ceremony at the State Capitol in Charleston.
Most states celebrate "Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day" on March 29 or 30 each year, the date of the final withdrawal of U.S. troops from Vietnam. The day commemorates the sacrifices of Vietnam veterans and is part of a national effort to recognize the men and women who were denied a proper welcome upon returning home more than 40 years ago.
Capt. McCormick handed out Vets4Energy hats that were worn by most attendees during the event.
Among those attending was West Virginia Secretary of State Natalie Tennant who invited Captain McCormick to return in August to speak on behalf of Vets4Energy at a National Vietnam Veterans event. Additionally, Vietnam Veteran and President of the United Mine Workers Assocaition (UMWA) was present and is interested in meeting with McCormick to discuss opportunities between the UMWA and Vets4Energy.
