Vets4Energy calls for strong U.S. energy policies that strengthen security and economy

Before heading to the polls in November, voters should be aware that supporting policies that develop U.S. energy resources strengthens national security and supports the economy, according to Vets4Energy, a group of volunteer veterans who advocate for strong energy policies.
“I think the majority of voters don’t understand energy issues and probably they hear the environmentalists say we need clean energy – and it sounds good – but they support that without really understanding the ramifications,” Richard DeNoyer, the Massachusetts state chairman of Vets4Energy and a retired U.S. Marine officer, recently told Daily Energy Insider.
Increasing access to the nation’s energy resources and supporting the construction of energy infrastructure helps the United States become less dependent on imported oil from foreign countries.
Until the time when solar, wind and other renewable energy sources can accommodate the nation’s energy demands, continuing the exploration for and development of fossil fuels, including natural gas, oil and coal, is practical and necessary, DeNoyer said.
“We believe that a strong energy policy in this country and energy development is conducive to a better energy supply and is much better for our military,” DeNoyer, who also previously served as a commander-in-chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, said.
Relying on foreign oil in countries like Saudi Arabia and Yemen not only impacts America’s national security, it has other costs as well.
“We should be producing oil here and not in countries that are supporting terrorism. It doesn’t help our military and doesn’t help our budgets either to be sending our military over to these foreign countries to protect oil fields,” DeNoyer said. “It is costing us trillions of dollars and it’s costing the lives of many young men who are injured in the name of oil.”
