Pipelines, Ukraine and crumbling roads

The below Letter to Editor was written by Vets4Energy Ohio Chairman Harry Prestanski...

Now that there is an abundance of affordable and clean natural gas, it is vital that we build the needed infrastructure to make the most of it. In Ohio, there are multiple proposed projects to build new pipelines to connect our state to the growing natural gas production.

These pipelines, such as the proposed Rover pipeline, are the safest and most efficient way to transport gas and give Ohio consumers and businesses access to it for the long term. Investments in projects such as the Rover pipeline will ensure that natural gas development continues domestically.

Piping gas underground is monumentally safer than transporting it above ground, according to data from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The increased production of natural gas has maxed out capacities of current pipelines, forcing gas producers to use less safe and less environmentally friendly transportation methods.

Opposition groups blocking development are forcing natural gas to travel via fossil-fuel-burning trucks or trains, which are significantly worse for the environment.
