Oil, gas key parts of country's energy mix

While I wish America could sustain itself solely on renewable energy, reality doesn't reflect my wishes. America is the largest consumer of energy on earth, and for good reason: We have allies to defend, cities to power and goods to transport. In many cases, we import our energy from volatile regimes who do not have America's best interests in mind .
It's desireable to have strategy encompassing wind and solar but contemporary technology cannot power a $20 trillion economy.
