Motorists around the state and much of the nation are seeing higher gas prices as a result of several key factors that have impacted supply and availability of gas.

Recently, news media reports have also stated that the United States' tensions with Russia over Ukraine have also manifested themselves by impacting the global energy market and contributing to the draining of Americans' wallets and pocketbooks at the pump.

What may be lost in the story is how approval of the Keystone XL Pipeline project would be a major boost to the U.S. economy, not only because of increased supply of oil, but also because of the tens of thousands of new jobs it will create. The Keystone project would help the United States avoid gas shortages, which we have had our share of in Florida, and could significantly help stabilize the roller coaster ride of gas prices.

And with hurricane season quickly approaching, the threat of gasoline shortages due to imported oil supply lines being interrupted remains a very real possibility.
