Retired Air Force Major General Bill Hodgkins, a Vets4Energy member, authored an OpEd relaying the importance of hydraulic fracturing to strengthening our energy security. An excerpt of that is below:
A letter to the editor encouraged Floridians to become more aware of a process called hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking,” which uses water pressure to create fissures in deep underground shale formations that allow oil and natural gas to flow and be extracted.
As an important component of America’s ability to supply its own oil and natural gas, I also believe readers deserve to know the facts, but not the distortion or inaccuracy of facts presented by Warren Brackmann in his letter.
Hydraulic fracturing is a proven technology that has been used safely in more than a million wells for more than 65 years, with technology that has been continuously improved upon. Without the use of fracking, we would lose 45 percent of domestic natural gas production and 17 percent of our oil production within five years."
