API's Jack Gerard Delivers Annual State of American Energy Address
January 13, 2014
On January 7, American Petroleum Institute’s CEO, Jack Gerard, delivered his annual State of American Energy address to the national media. Gerard highlighted several broad themes in his speech many of which have been incorporated into our Vets4Energy narrative around the country:
- The United States has a unique and historic opportunity to become energy self-sufficient and the world’s “Energy Superpower.”
- The decision on the Keystone XL pipeline has now taken longer than World War II.
- The EPA rollback of the Renewable Fuel Standard - RFS – was a good start but Congress needs to institute a permanent fix to ethanol blends rather than dealing with it year to year.
- Hydraulic fracturing is making good on its potential to deliver unprecedented amounts of domestically produced energy.
- Energy efficiency is an important component of a larger energy package that Congress needs to address.
Veterans understand better than most that the importance is smart energy policies for our country, and that Energy Security = National Security.
Vets4Energy hopes to partner with many state Veterans Service Organizations (VSO) this year and discuss ways to integrate energy issues with other critical veterans issues as the campaign season heats up. We hope that in the near future that veterans will have opportunities to engage with your state VSO leadership and talk about the critically important energy issues facing American, and the vital nexus of energy security and national security.
